Twitter has a reputation for being a dumpster fire.

Using the “For You” or “Who to Follow” recommendations is a sure fire way to set your feed ablaze with toxic nonsense.

If you are new to Twitter want to build relationships, you need three lists.

  1. Maybe: Adding people to this list allows you to sample someone’s feed over time. Consider this list to be “probationary.”
  2. Definitely: This person brings value to my world. This is the feed that adds value to your world.
  3. My people!: These are the people you’ve chatted with and if you knew them in real life, you’d enjoy chatting with over coffee.

Bonus Tip: When you’re viewing Twitter in your browser, bookmark your “Following” tab to avoid the “For You” default.

Some of your closest friends are on Twitter. You just need to meet them.
