Most journaling advice is useless.

Why? Most online “Experts” fail to address the “Friction Problem”

First Step Fallacies & the Truth

The “Tools Are Easy” Fallacy

The new journaler assumes digital journaling is not acceptable.

The “expert” assumes selecting a notebook is simple. It is not.

Truth: In my experience as a self-reflection coach over the past 7 years, wanna-be journalers never get started because they cannot choose a tool.

The “Permanence” Fallacy

The new journaler assumes “this is the only way.”

When the “expert’s” method doesn’t work, they quit rather than experiment, unaware that

Truth: Consistent journalers develop their own methodologies.

The “Perfection” Fallacy

The new journaler assumes, “If I miss a day, I am a failed journaler and incapable of maintaining a healthy habit.”

Truth: A consistent journaling practice is effective. It beats the hell out of quitting before journalers ever begin.

Are You A Journaling “Wanna-Be?”

The “experts” are not trying to mislead you.

Take a moment now to notice your friction points, and consider:

Use the first thing you see that will “capture” your thoughts!

  • Am I overcomplicating my tool selection?
  • What happens now that I know I have the freedom to experiment?
  • What terrible things happen when I miss a day?

Experiment with different tools & methods. Be playful. Have fun.

What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree?

Let me know in the comments.
